Whoh there, slow down with all the details. No need to overload us [/sarc]
Back to serious business... Care to elaborate on exactly what it is you are trying to do? What do you mean:

Yes,I'm running a live gig with sound effects and video cues. I've dropped in images before and they simply 'play' on the screen. However I cannot seem to drop any image into Live anymore. It's a pretty random problem.
At least... I THINK I used to be able to do that. Am I on crazy pills? I'm starting to think I used to convert the image into a movie file...

I suspected that was the case but I have never known images to be able to be loaded at all, only *.mov video files (and maybe mp4). Been a few years since I worked with video in Live

Maybe (just maybe) it was Quicktime that allowed that, and maybe that was affected by Apple changing Quicktime in both Win and Mac (killed it on Win).
Maybe it could be the video driver too.

This article hints at that:

"Live can open any QuickTime-compatible movies", "You can also load jpegs, dragging their starts or ends to change their duration within the timeline."
