Can't Set Up Headphones for CUE!
Can't Set Up Headphones for CUE!
This is stumping me majorly. I've watched this video tutorial on how to do this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36AnDg6ReIs
But my setup simply isn't looking like that. My audio is routed out to an audio interface Steinberg to be precise. When I open output config I only have available two options:
- 1 (mono) & 2 (mono)
- 1/2 stereo
No matter what combination I click this on or off (and they are both on by default) I cant get the option to use that solo button as a cue button let alone figure out how that can be used to route a track's sound just to heapones while my other sounds play out through the interface. Something isnt matching the instructions given.
Can anyone help?

Re: Can't Set Up Headphones for CUE!
Which model; of interface?
From what you have detailed you only have a single set of outputs available which would be your main outputs so you do not have a second set to use with cue otherwise you would have a 3/4 output you could set for cue
Re: Can't Set Up Headphones for CUE!
UR22mkII is the exact product
But
1. why wouldn't I just be able to use the computer's Built-In Outut, Headhone Out or Line-Out as the additional channel for heaphone/cue monitoring while using the interface for live monitoring?
2.And is there a workaround?

CUE usually involves relying on a separate audio output so you can have separate mixes on the outputs.Dnuo wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 12:37 pmUR22mkII is the exact product

Your main output would be your main mix, and by using aux sends you could do a headphone mix. DJ CUEs are a bit more simpler as it just allows you to play a track in the CUE outputs so you can listen to it in headphones while the audience can't hear it but it still utilize needing to have a separate output for the headphones. Ableton does support DJ style CUEs I think but it needs a separate output to distinguish from the main output.
My guessing is some interfaces don't support having a separate headphone audio feed from the main output (as alot of users would probably never use this function), but a good bit of them do I think as well. You would need to check with your interface manufacterer (or read their documentation).
Any interface with multiple outputs would support this though (even if their headphone option don't support having a separate feed from the main out as you would just plug headphones into the separate audio output).
Re: Can't Set Up Headphones for CUE!
but why can't the second output just be the computer itself, with the first being the audio interface?

Re: Can't Set Up Headphones for CUE!
I'm not sure "why" but the logic is you can only pick one interface as an output. You can use the internal one, or you can use an external one. You can't mix and match. That's just the way it is.
That being said, you might be able to create virtual outputs using something like Rogue Amoeba's Loopback software, but I'm not sure.
Frustrating, I know.
EDIT: forgot to mention that some interfaces allow for some pretty nifty cue routings, but that often involves using their own software in conjunction with Ableton.

Re: Can't Set Up Headphones for CUE!
The reason is basically because managing multiple audio interfaces for a daw is not always reliable or efficient. Mac users have the ability to use 2 interfaces I assume because the mac audio engine is probably not a dogs breakfast like Windows. Using Asio4all can allow for it but the performance can take a nose dive and you may end up with pops and crackles since synching would be painful.
This is why using pro software you need to look at pro solutions.

When asking for help, the more info you give, the better answers we will be able to provide.
There are huge differences in platform regarding audio, for instance.
If you have a mac, you can set up a Multi-Output device - or even an aggregate device, consisting of several interfaces.
Your UR22mkII is one interface. Your computer's built in audio card is another.
If you're running a Windows Machine, this can also be done using ASIO4ALL, but it's much less stable and not quite as easy.
