BPM / Tempo randomizer
BPM / Tempo randomizer
I must map a smoothed out S&H LFO to master BPM Tempo with a variance of +/- 2 BPM for subtle BPM drift then record its variances into the MASTER track. Is this possible with Ableton Live?

Re: BPM / Tempo randomizer
Max 4 Live Midi LFO
Choose the Random wave form
MIDI Map to Tempo or Tempo Fine.
Play around with the Depth Offset and Smooth settings till you get what you want. Though 'subtle' might be a challenge. Tempo Fine may be too subtle and the main setting too coarse.

Thanks Finn for the suggestion. Do you know how to record the randomization into the timeline Master Track > BPM.
This is to deliberately "humanise" a Midi drum track.

Re: BPM / Tempo randomizer
Record yourself tapping on a table to a metronome. Then put warp markers on all the taps. Set the clip in Arrangement View and set it is the master tempo. Then Live will follow the variations in your human tapping.
If you really want to get goofy, you might be able to turn that into a groove. If you applied that groove to the drums, you might be able to not only humanize it via that, but use Groove's humanizing parameter. And even better yet, if you had some dynamic variation in your table tapping, that too might apply to the groove.

Re: BPM / Tempo randomizer
To revive this thread: LFO on the master does not work unfortunately. It just keeps the tempo of the lowest value instead of drifting. Is there a more elegant and above all simpler way of modulating the bpm by small increments?

Re: BPM / Tempo randomizer
You’re probably overlooking the offset parameter.
Still it might be challenging to set it up with precision. There might be a m4l device more suitable for tempo control. If not, somebody (me?) might code it.

Re: BPM / Tempo randomizer
I've got this working so as to humanise the global tempo and slave the session to that tempo using LFO MIDI Max device.
STEP 1 - Create Midi dummy track and put MAX LFO device on it - See basic instructions here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQBoPLY58KU
BUT SKIP THE MAPPING - YOU DON'T NEED IT
STEP 2 - open enhanced features in MAX device (little arrow top right within the device) and enable 'control out' and set to 'CC00' (or any number you like)
STEP 3- enable the 'IAC' midi ports (both in and out) in ableton's global midi preferences. Enable 'track, sync, remote' for both the in and out. Select the output of the dummy midi track with MAX LFO device to IAC out.
STEP 3 - open ableton's global midi mapping window and then double click on the tempo display in ableton... Now go back to ableton midi mapping window and set the same 'CC' number on the tempo midi mapping - as sending from max device. Also set the min and max song tempo
THIS IS WORKING AND YOU CAN DIAL IN VERY SUBTLE AND DETAILED OR DRAMATIC FEEL TO TEMPO !
PS: I prefer the sine algorhythm as opposed to randomizer
