How to just close a project without quitting Ableton Live 9?
Hi,
After I installed Ableton 9 (on an iMac), I can't just close a project without quitting Ableton Live 9. The option "Close Window" is greyed out, so I have to red X in the top left corner of the window. But when I do that, the entire program quit.
Does anyone else have that problem? And is there a way to solve it?
Thanks!

I don't think you can do that. Live always has a project open.

Save your current project. Then create a new project.

I wonder if there's any chance Ableton will ever modify this behavior, as it's very un-Mac-like. I've been using Ableton for 15 years and a Mac for 20+, and it STILL surprises me every time it quits itself upon closing a project. Mac apps are supposed to be able to remain open without any documents open.

Ableton is not Mac only.....
Live 11, M1 Mac Mini, Push 2, Scarlett 18i20 & ADA8200, Softube Console 1 Mk2, Deepmind12, Hydrasynth, Cobalt 8M, Moog Subsequent 25, IK Uno Synth Pro, Plethora X3, Nord Drum 3P

True! But neither is, say, Pro Tools or Dorico or Sibelius, and I can have all of those open without a document being open. Reaper and Studio One, though...not so much
Curious what Ableton (et al) see as the downside of allowing this UI behavior on a Mac. I've literally had to re-boot Live thousands of times because my stupid brain will apparently never get used to it.

I'm curious, I don't see what's the benefit of having the app open without a project. ![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)

It takes a bit of getting used to, but if you think about it, you're saving a step. Save the old song, then just create or load a new project. I was "bitten" by this more than once until I became accustomed to it, but I've grown to appreciate it. It does go against standard behavior though. As do many things in Live.
