Edit MIDI names in configure mode.
Edit MIDI names in configure mode.
Hi,
I would like to be able to change the names of MIDI parameters when using the configure mode for a VST in Ableton. I am using a Behringer x-touch for a lot of plugin manipulation but the screens are small, so a lot of parameters have the same name which can get confusing.
I would like the make the names captured by configure mode more smaller screen friendly, I gather that the MIDI parameter names actually come through from the VST itself? I'm wondering where these names are stored and if they are editable somehow?
Many thanks,
Bill

I didn’t know that the x-touch could receive names. Nice !
Could you maybe group you vst ? You can rename macros.

Thanks for your reply, it certainly can using the plugin button, I find I'm using it more and more as I much prefer that hands on feel especially with my synths. The grouping does work and the names display on the x touch (nice), but it only gives me 8 macros, I have around 50 host mappings on some of my synths....

I’ve almost never used VSTs (trust me !) but maybe a max for live solution would be possible ? I’ll have a look at how it works. Do you have m4l ?

Join the club mate!
This has been my number 1 request and the biggest reason I ditched Push 2 for use with VSTs in favor of the much better suited Komplete Kontrol. Having every control appear as Osc1Parmtr or some such is painful. The ability to easily assign names to parameters and page banks as well as be able to insert blank spaces (for use with Push) would be most welcome. So would the ability to load VSTs using NKS files since that has all the work already done in them and should be easy to manage.
But alas, without some 3rd party hackery that seems flakey at times, it is not possible to label parameters from VSTs and one of the biggest let downs of the Live VST functionality IMO.

@chapelier, yes I do have M4L, I have been trying to get my head around it but with limited time it's difficult. I'm sure something similar could be achieved with M4L though...
@jestermgee, That's exactly the problem, I've sort of get round it by remembering where the parameters are if the names are the same. Seems a silly thing for Ableton to overlook. Interesting that you mention Komplete Kontrol, do you have the version with the high res screen? Looks like a cool piece of kit!

No I use the MK1 still as it does what I need just fine. It’s so much better at managing vsts than Live since you can browse presets and now it also allows any midi device to map to the controls and I believe Komplete Kontrol is free software if you setup an account so you can use it with any VST that offers NKS compatibility or with user created NKS libraries like the ones available in my signature.
