Ableton output into iMovie

Post by modular1 » Tue Jan 14, 2020 5:48 pm

Im trying to set up iMovie to record video and the audio output of my UA Apollo Twin to I can get decent quality audio on my Live Modular videos.

Setup:
Modular patch runs into audio inputs of twin through its console.
I have Ableton Live playing kick drums and hihats to augment the patch.

When I set the system audio input to Apollo everything works great but the iMovie recording is missing the Ableton audio. How do I get iMovie to record the audio that gets sent to the monitors? I suppose a cable from the Apollo headphone jack to the MacBook line in will work but id rather do it internally.

Any ideas? Am I missing something obvious here?

I ran into a similar issue a while back when trying to get my audio setup right for recording. In my case, I was trying to record a podcast with background music from my DAW into a video editing software. The trick I found was using a virtual audio cable or an audio routing software. This software can route the audio from Ableton directly into iMovie as an input source, capturing both the modular sounds and the Ableton output in your recording.

Besides, I made it a bit shorter with https://www.movavi.com/learning-portal/ ... utter.html. It helped me get cleaner audio directly into your video. It's a bit technical, but once you get it set up, it's pretty smooth sailing.
