L5.02b6: transpose automation+complex warp mode freeze live
i made a clip with a transpose automation from 0 to 24 in complex warp mode and Live freezed ( cpu around 100 % + D light up )
no fx/no vst
M-audio quattr0/win xp sp 1/intel centrino 1.5/512M0 ram/hD 7200 tr/min

I suppose it should be within the capabilities of your hardware
to play a single sample with arbitrary transposition using the
complex warper.
Does load depend on the transposition being automated
or on a specific automation ?
Does the same load happen if you just set the clip transpositon to 24 ?
What is the maximum transpostion that is possible on you system
without freezing live?
thanks & greetings,

Hi folks,
unfortunately the term "freezing" is not very self-explained. It is difference if it freezes or stutters for some seconds or if it freezes the whole system so you have to reset/restart.... Developers mostly think of the second one because it is much more worse :)
kabelton,
we received the set and as far as I remember it contained a clip in complex warp mode with transpose of +48. Ingo probably knows more details about it, but heavenly transposition is a weak point of the complex warper.
I'm not sure if we can do something on that issue.
The other think Ingo wants to know is if there is a relation between a fixed transposition and an envelope/automation of any other parameter when getting CPU spikes, stuttering, system freezes,...
regards,
Alex

it stutters in fact ( sorry for my vocabulary , i'm french
)
so after a few test yesterday
transposition without clip automation seems not affect playing clip
extreme transposition ( > 24 semitones ) by clip automation stutter the playing of the clip and sometimes freeze the system
by the way it seems that transposition affects a lot the cpu consumption, in complex warp mode.
INMHO if it's not a bug you have to find a way to put limit in the transposition parameters in complex warp mode.
every manipulation authorized in Live souldn't have to put Freeze or stutters Live

as alex said, different to all other warpers, the complex warper
load increases as the transposition (or the stretch factor, for that
matter) deviates from 1.0.
As a result, it might very well be that a set, that plays fine without
transposition, will turn ugly when you use extreme transpostion
(depending on your processor speed).
Having said that, this should certainly not depend on the value being
automated or not. The same transpositon unautomated should
have the same effect.
This also should certainly not lead to a total freeze
(meaning one that does not go away, even when you leave some
time for the processor to churn throught that clip).
Parameter limits that prevent overload are a difficult thing to do
(if at all possible). For example, a set that plays fine on one
system may fail horribly on one that is a few years older.
Or shifting clips so that all of a sudden two clips play simultaneous
may very well shift an already strained system over the edge.
Having said that, i would like to have a look at that set you
created, where the automated transposition makes the
complex warper stutter, so i can investigate whats happening.
kind regards,
