Ableton does not send Midi Sync (Reaper works!)

Hi, so after long testing:

I have dedicated Midi Out straight to external synth (Roland JP-8080). It is connected to Keyboard Midi In on the device plus the device is set to receive Midi Sync on this channel in System Options.

It works in Reaper for both midi cc + clock data.

In Ableton, no matter if I choose only Sync or also Transport. It never sends any Midi Clock! Even I hit Play on transport and I see the led blinking on the top of Ableton menu (sync out). And yes I tried also Song / Pattern style of sync. It does not make any difference.

Why in Reaper it works out of the box on same port, same cable and in Ableton there is no way to get it working?

Reaper sends Midi Clock SPP I think. I don't know what Ableton is doing.

I've been using Live to slave synths, drum machines and other peoples' computers for years. you gave no details on your setup so I can't guess at what you're going wrong. if you've played with Live's settings maybe it's on the 8080.

Strange strange strange....restarting Ableton helped

EDIT: I have Motu 828x and RayDat RME PCI Express. I use currently midi on RayDat and I switched DirectMidi on RayDat settings. I did not mention other things as I also have experience with Korg SQ-1 and Access Virus B in Ableton and it was working before.

you don't have EXT turned on, it should be off if Live is the master.

I have my Roland JX305 (think MC505 with keys) slaved to Live right now. I didn't have to do anything to get them slaved.

if you can get gear to slave to a different DAW that's a good sign.

I don't know what DirectMIDI is but it seems like you trust it.

Ableton is master, I don't use EXT. But I told you that restarting Ableton fixed the problem. After 2 hours in the session and tweaking stuff, simple restart fixed it and now when I hit play it sends midi sync.

Also DirectMusic Midi was enabled and it seems it might be a part of the issue: https://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/ ... hp?print=1 ...DirectMusic Midi is some kind of "new" Windows API for Midi providing lower latency and higher stability

I don't see restart in your posts, all I read was

all you're posting about is that Live took a reboot before midi sync worked.

I gave myself a black eye with that face palm, thanks for your patience. that bit of text blended into the subject line, my eyes completely skipped over it. totally my bad.

rebooting Live fixes a lot of woes, I just rebooted mine because the audio locked up.
