Is it possible to visualize grooves in arrangement view?

Post by summer » Tue Feb 18, 2020 3:19 pm

Reaper has the ability to view the groove layout in arrangement view so it's easier to place drum samples for example

I'm wondering if I can achieve that in Live too.

Thanks!

Create a clip as long as the song, fill it with notes of the value you want, apply a groove, then use that for reference.

Grooves can be dropped as MIDI files into a MIDI Track.

Way easier to just use a Drum Rack or a Simpler (triggered directly by the groove even) instead of manually drag'n'dropping drum hits in Arrangement like that.

Dont believe Ableton can do it. (Groove based gridlines?).

Only workarounds is to use a reference midi clip and edit multiple clips.

Or use reference audio clip if working with audio but you would need to edit to Arrange view.

You can have audio or midi follow any groove but no real easy way to "see" it other than apply it.

If you’re going to use snap, then just consolidate or extend the clips and apply the groove. Not that I wouldn’t like to be able to set the grid to a groove in both the arranger and detail view.
