Akai Fire CrossFire by Isotonik Studios: Any user here?

Post by noiseresistance » Mon Mar 16, 2020 12:57 pm

Consider to buy the Akai Fire and the CrossFire script by Isotonik. I already have Push (1) but I would like to have a travel mate with me. The form-factor and the idea seems nice. Unfortunately there are just two videos of the controller in action and the manual is well written but of course not able to give me a proper idea of the usage in real life. So... anyone out there who use this?

Happy to answer any questions but I'm obviously biased from a review point of view...

Thanks for the reply. I wonder what the Max devices are for which comes with the Crossfire script. I thought the script works without Max4Live. And how far is the script reconfigurable?

The script comes with a MaxforLive toolkit, these devices are the basis for you to create your own devices. MaxforLiuve is not required to use the script.

If you have MAxforLive however we have also released the Euclidean Mode device here - https://isotonikstudios.com/Euclidean-Mode which integrates with the script.

Reconfiguration is limited to the re-assigning of parameter mappings which can be done on a dynamic basis based on the track or chain that is in focus. Personally it just does everything you'd want it to do in a small footprint so there'd be no point investing time in reverse engineering it.

So, if I understand, correctly "usermode 1" and "usermode 2" can not re-configured in general and just for the set? I would like to remap "usermode 1" and "usermode 2" for different purposes in general.

No you're not able to MIDI Map the controller in the general way as it doesn't support it.

This is extremely disappointing.

I want different kind of keyboard layout than comes with it.

It is certainly capable of being mapped that way, Bitwig studio has a mapping that's much closer to what I need than crossfire does. I want every pad on it to be a different note, not a bunch of repeats across it.

Bitwig studio has a mapping like that though not in the layout I want.

And if it is programmable with Maxforlive, I'd have thought I could map it the way I wanted it.

How about a mapping like this: notes go from low to high as you go top to bottom, then left to right, so that the lowest note is the upper left and the highest note is the bottom right. And I can shift it by single notes and by octaves or something.

I think bitwig has one on the Akai Fire that's left to right then top to bottom. Not exactly what I want but at least that's on note per pad, not a bunch of repeats. And I didn't pay $400 for Bitwig studio, I paid $600 for Ableton Live and $40 for crossfire.

Your signature is www.isotonikstudios.com so crossfire is your product. I paid money for that product and for max for live so I could have this kind of dense pad. Can we make it work PLEASE?

Sorry, but that's how the product works, it's not possible to create what you're asking for, perhaps something like Remotely will allow you to create a custom script that meets your needs.

Live is not Bigwig so any comparisons are a moot point.

Google doesn't find anything for:
Ableton "Remotely"

Where can I find "Remotely"?

S4racen probably meant Remotify.
