realistic VST, soundpacks and samples for ethnic/oriental EDM?

Post by KleinAberFein » Fri Mar 27, 2020 11:26 pm

Hi!

The title says it all.
That's my preferred genre.
And I would love to know what are the most recommended tools which can bring me there.
(Edit: I'm in Bitwig btw)

I guess that most producers sample ethnic/Oriental music, more than creating their own melody with very realistic sounding VST or sampled phrases.
I can definitely see myself doing both things.
Using real music is amazing specially with ethnic music which is so magic.
But I'd also definitely like to have very realistic VST like EastWest Silk and create something with Voice-to-Midi.
And sampled phrases are also amazing.

But where to get these things?

Thank you so much, I'm soooo excited!
(Btw you can pm me if you have something to share/sell)

KAF

That looks fantastic!

But I realise that I got so excited that I forgot to mention I'm with Bitwig.
I just had written about my decision (Bitwig over Ableton) in all the threads I had started lately, and probably my subconscious thought everybody knew already and I didn't have to write it anymore 😂
I edited the op now.

So, the first question would be, what of all that you send me can be used in Bitwig?

And second question is, any other recommendations which are not Ableton specific?

I do. And that's definitely the best place to ask about things which are specifically for Bitwig.
But VST, soundpacks, samples collections, they are pretty much universal if I understood well? I mean, they can be used in any DAW, right?
And I've big respect for Ableton and its community and the experience and knowledge of you all.
That's why I'm here too :P

Thanks, I had that under radar, I was wondering if there is something specific for Oriental, Arabic, Ethnic EDM...

Splice has a nice sub-label named "Splice Explores" with experimental sound packs with ethnic themes like "Himalaya", "Polyrhythmic Palettes", "Gamelan", etc. that fit OP's requirements.

Some of the packs of that label come with some pretty good Ableton presets (and a couple Sets).

(Wish Splice revamped their search system to include the file extensions. Would make it easier to search the extras.)

A newbie question: what's the difference between preset, set, and soundpacks, and what's specific to a DAW or usable in any DAW?
And also, if for example I have Ableton Lite, can I somehow export some of these things to Bitwig?

Set is short for "Live Set", a specific thing in Live, it is the "document" you are working in Live, that is saved as a ".als" file inside a Project folder. A "Project" (short for "Live Project") in Live is a folder that can hold several Sets (plus samples and other files).

https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/manag ... e-projects

I used "preset" as just a generic word for saved configs for synths/effect. Pretty much every synth and effect can save presets, there are hundreds of formats (most are not compatible with each other). Live itself can save several types of presets, ADV (live device preset), ADG (live rack/group preset), FXP (VST preset), FXB (VST bank) and whatever AU and VST3 use.

Basically way too many formats, so people just say "preset" for everything, and figure out specifics on a need basis.

Packs in Live can be a specific word for "Live Packs" (which are specific to Live), but "sound pack" or "sample pack" usually refer to generic collections of sounds or samples.

I don't know how Bitwig imports stuff. Most likely besides WAV files and VST presets (which are handled by the VST, not the DAW) nothing else can be imported.
