Is Lite enough for my needs

Post by Bheems » Fri Apr 17, 2020 3:22 pm

Hey,

Long story short. I play guitar and a bit of piano, but because of medical conditions I can not play in a band any longer.
So for a time I tried to start my own band and record songs in Logic. But the workflow does not seem to work for me. I am having troubles with the horizontal recordings and not being able to loop a track without copy paste it. It's nice for recording a track, but I am looking to jam something with some backings.

What I want is to jam along with a backing track that I can slowly build up. Having some experience with a very old version of Ableton, I think Ableton and a Launchpad is what I need. I want to use pads to record some drums and backings like bass.

Since all my savings will go to a Launchpad (don't have the money for a Push), I was wondering if the Ste version of Ableton will be sufficient enough for my needs. I looked at the Instruments list and was surprised to only fins a drum synth. I also want to play some bass lines or synths on the Launchpad. Is this possible? Because I don't have the budget to buy the Launchpad and Suite both.

And I have some old AU for Guitar Amps. Can I use those in Lite to record my guitar?

Or do I need to see Lite as a ‘Very very basic test version’ and will it not be sufficient enough for a LaunchPad so that I need to upgrade in a few weeks anyway?

You should be fine ;-)
Lite comes with Simpler which can do many many things (e.g Bass sounds), and you can use AU/VST if you need more.
And if you need more tracks you can still do it the old way... bounce.

I concur with the above - you can cover a lotta ground with Lite and then there some truly great free vsts out there that can cover the rest.

Thanks, good to hear.

One more question. Is there a guitar Amp in Lite to record, like for instance in Garage Band?
Or do I also need to buy a version of an amp modelling AU like Guitar Rack or something?

Not in Lite, but there's many great free Guitar Amp simulation plugins. And Live's Amp is not really good as a guitar amp anyway.

Thanks. Just opened a new topic (oops)

I used These great free amps in Logic, but Ableton does not seem to recognise them.

Am I doing something wrong? All my other plugins are recognised (I downloaded the 90 day trial of Suite). Or had this something to do with my Logic running on a 32-bit Mac and Ableton on 64-bit OS Catalina?

I’m guessing those black rooster plugins aren’t yet Catalina compatible. There are free amp sims out there that are though. Bias FX has a free le version that I believe works on Catalina.
