Live 4 Lite E-mu doesn't work as rewire slave

No matter what I try, I cannot make the Live 4 Lite E-mu version that came with my E-mu 1820m soundcard work as rewire slave from Cubase SL 3. Isn't rewire slave mode supported in this particular version?

Did you activate the rewire channels in Cubase first?

When I try to do so Cubase gives me the warning message "Can not use Ableton Live. Close Ableton Live and try again", to which I can only select OK.

Live itself is just running in stand-alone mode when started when Cubase is already running. Rewire is working fine with other applications (HALion and DR-008)

Can anyone confirm that Rewire actually is suppose to work in this particular version?
