Live Arp without metronome ?

Post by moussasfeir » Sun May 03, 2020 3:06 pm

Hi all,

This one is a tricky topic for me, I hope I can explain it properly.

My target (which I can't seem to achieve at the moment) is: I'd like to play live and use arpeggiator, without an in ear metronome.

Here's an example to explain where I'm stuck:
- Let's assume that at a specific gig I'm playing at 60 BPM (which I couldn't have known in advance, the next day I might be playing slightly faster/slower).
- I'm triggering 2 instruments with a single controller (I don't mean split mode, I mean each key generates 2 sounds): a bass, and a 1/4 arpeggiated Lead
- I'm hitting 1 key per bar (so I expect at each bar: 1 Bass note that lasts 4 sec, and 4 Lead notes of 1 sec each)

So far, I have Arpeggiator in "Sync" mode (and rate 1/4), and I use Live's tap tempo to ensure Live is at 60 BPM.

BUT: it seems that Live's tap tempo targets only the speed at which I hit the "tap" button (and not the beat position itself)
So the Lead is indeed generating 4 notes per bar, but sometimes on the off beat vs the bass.

Do you know of any way to solve this ?

Cheers,

Moussa
