Sticky automation points?

Post by bantheboy » Fri May 10, 2019 9:28 am

Quick question for all ableton users: Does your automation points in arrangement feel sticky even when you turn grid completely off?

Mine does, and sometime it drives me crazy. I've been in contact with support and they can't replicate it, just want to know if I'm the only one with this issue. Using a MacBook Pro 2016 Touch Bar.

Hey!
Yes they feel sticky for me too. Not in the sense that it's snapping to grid/time, more snapping to certain values vertically. Even with mouse-sens set to rather high it takes me a good few centimeters of physical movement on my mousepad to get the automation point to even move in any direction. When i make a new automation breakpoint (and holding the left mousebutton pressed as if to change values) the mouse-pointer is twitching a little but stuck in place, like movement is registered in the software. After that it then flies off like a spring or rubber band in the direction i'm now furiously trying to move the mouse in. Already made breakpoints can sometimes be changed with a softer touch but generally no sort of small mouse movements help. Very frustrating.

Holding command whilst creating breakpoints doesn't affect it neither does the "do not snap to grid"-option as it only affects time. On a Macbook 2015 retina running Catalina. I feel this changed somewhere from live 10.1.1 -> 10.1.3 and i have not had this problem in live 9.5. Tried updating, now on 10.1.14 and still no luck.

Any ideas?

I solved it using the "Pen Tablet Mode" under "Look & Feel" preferences in Live. The mousepointer stays visible rather than disappearing but that's a perfectly fine workaround to a somewhat non-responsive mouse.

Could it be related to Catalina? I don't remember any change in this area between L10.1.1 and L10.1.3, but I'll have a look at the changelog.

Could be! Unsure what the difference could be though from previous versions. Ive scoured the internet for any sort of mouse software acceleration setting in Catalina 10.15 that would be disabled by using the "Pen Tablet Mode", but to no avail.

After trying out a different mouse the problem didn't persist with the new hardware. It seems the sticky-problem is isolated to my current Steelseries Rival 310. I tried downloading the steelseries management software to disable an acceleration but to no avail. So to anyone experiencing these types of problems; a change of mouse could be a good place to start.
