When we started touring with my band last year, I looked for an easy way to control our setlist in Ableton using my iPad. I only found this $300 setlist plugin which looked too complicated and wasn't optimized for mobile devices, so I started working on my own solution to this challenge.
After developing a quick prototype last May, I've been working on an app called AbleSet that provides an easy way to manage and control your Ableton setlist. AbleSet recognizes the cue markers in your Ableton project and uses them to create a setlist for you. You can use your computer, phone, tablet, or any MIDI controller to control the setlist.
Using a simple format, you can add notes to your songs and divide them into sections (like Verses, Choruses, etc.). You can also add Stop markers, for example at the end of a song. AbleSet will automatically pause playback when one of those points is reached.
I think the biggest time-saving feature is the ability to re-order songs in your setlist without needing to touch your Ableton session and moving clips around.
