RAM needed for live gigs

Post by Riven » Sat May 30, 2020 1:37 pm

Hi

I’m looking to get a new 16 inch MacBook Pro and some new VSTs. If I want to play big VSTs like Komplete and Omnisphere in Ableton via midi Keyboard while performing live gigs in my band, how much RAM do I need? Is 32 gig enough?

Thanks

Riv

As much as you can afford; 16Go minimum.

Audio doesn't need a huge amount of memory. Unless you are planning on 100 track orchestral stuff, probably 16GB would be just fine. I have used 16GB in Windows for years and has no issue even with video production projects

I’ve 16GB of RAM, some of which is used by the gpu, and have never had a lack of RAM problem. Though I don’t use huge sample libraries that get read into RAM.
