Recurring crash (Live freezes, play button is stuck green)..

Post by djesa » Sun Jan 12, 2014 12:09 pm

Hey, I have already sent in the crash report, but this crash is occuring frequently with me. It is where I am just playing around with a loop while in Arrangement View, then all of a sudden Live freezes and the audio stops. The "Play" button locks itself in green, and I am not able to press play, stop, or get Live to playback anything, it is all stuck. However, I can save the project and use the File menu with no problems. The only thing that works if I force close Live (I get a message "this will stop audio recording"), then turn off and on my soundcard (Xone DB2) and my Push, then I open up Live again and load the project.

This has been happening about 6 times in the last day, sometimes it happens just a few minutes after opening a new project, or it could be a few hours of playing before it happens. Either way, I do not know what is causing it, but it is a recurring issue that I really want to know how to fix. Here are my computer specifications by the way;

Windows 8, i7 processor, 16g RAM, SSD and HDD for audio samples, Live 9.1 64bit, Xone DB2 soundcard, Push midi controller.

I really do not know what is causing this issue, if anybody can give me some clue to what it could be or tips on how to trouble shoot it, it would be great! :?

Hello friends of 5 years ago. 2020 sucks - enjoy 2015.

Anyways, I have the problem on Catalina. Tried every version of Ableton I own and using no cracked plug-ins.

Any solutions in the ether?

I am having the same issue since a couple of days. Please share if you find out why it happens or if it maybe occurs because of a specific plugin..

It's actually fine not creating a new topic if the problem sounds similar. But we'll need details about your setup and what's really happening.

Same Problem here for weeks.
M1 Studio
Sonoma 14.7.1

You can save the project and work on it, but you cannot play it. After a while, it eventually freezes completely and displays a message that a fatal error has occurred.
Problem: The error occurs irregularly, and trying around with applications from different providers did not lead to success.
I initially thought it might be a misinterpretation of a MIDI signal, but this is more a feeling than knowledge.

Which Ableton version?
The latest version, 12.1.1
But it could be that I have just discovered the bug by chance - after weeks.
I usually work on two screens. I have now switched to one and so far there have been no freezes.
As soon as the freeze occurs, Toontrack EZK2, for example, displays the message that there is no audio unit. This message is definitely proofed wrong and Toontrack EZK2 can be ruled out as the source of the error.
As I said before, I have the impression that some signal is being misinterpreted. And, right now it looks like as it has to do with running Live with two screens. I'll be able to tell you more tomorrow if the project runs without problems tonight.

Same problem here.

Ableton Live Suite 12.1.1
Windows 11 Pro.

I thought it was related to indexing samples, but it did not do that and i also removed most of my sample folders from places. About a week it has been crashed every time, and not even a big project. For example 2 tracks VST plugins and 1 effect VST plugin. Today it crashed when i changed settings "auto-hide plugin-windows".

My assumption yesterday with two screens was wrong. It worked for quite a long time, but curiously, during a break when no work was being done, the problem reappeared. Very often again today. It is a very annoying problem as it occurs irregularly and is obviously not due to the VSTs and therefore difficult to find. I now assume that it is a bug in Live.
