Crashing / Laggy Screen / Glitchy Audio - Ableton 10.15

Post by Bad Lieutenant » Thu Jun 25, 2020 12:57 pm

Hello, recently upgraded form Ableton 8.2 to Ableton 10.15. Ableton 8.2 was super smooth and stable.

Ableton 10 has been a disaster. Crashes (Sent reports), screen is horribly laggy, and audio creates artefacts (1024 buffer on external card!)

Grateful for any help. I am nervous to write any tracks as I keep pressing save every 2 secs!!!

Thanks

My specs:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
3.3 GHz Intel Core i5
16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 1536 MB
Ableton 10 Live Suite (10.1.15)

Have you tried reinstalling Live?

Do your crashes occur with ALS saved from 8.2?

Do crashes occur building new sets?

Do you think VST or AU are involved with the crashes?

What USB peripherals do you have attached, and do you think they're having an effect? What version of MacOS is the MBP running on?

Hello, thanks for your reply and questions. I'll answer them inline:

Have you tried reinstalling Live?
- No not yet

Do your crashes occur with ALS saved from 8.2?
- I reserved the project as a new project under 10.1.5

Do crashes occur building new sets?
- I haven't built one yet as I have an existing techno template that I work off (OK fill in the blanks)

Do you think VST or AU are involved with the crashes?

I don't know how to figure that out. Mostly Ableton stock other than a couple of Sonnox ones (which have been user stable in 8.2)

What USB peripherals do you have attached, and do you think they're having an effect?
Moue, Sound card (Focusrite 8i6); Monitor and charge (original Mac charger)

What version of MacOS is the MBP running on?

High Sierra

After the first update and using an options.txt file to reduce the incredible load Live 10 puts on theMac graphics system Live 10 has been very stable for me.

2.2GHz i7 MBP, 16GB RAM, Apple SSD. Currently running Mojave.
Live 10 Suite, 2020 27" iMac, 3.6 GHz i9, MacOS Catalina, RME UFX, assorted synths, guitars and stuff.

@TLW what did you put in Options.txt? Please share. It's doing my head in. Audio drop outs and skips galore!!!
