Recording MIDI and Audio in ableton at the sams time
Hello,
Im quite new to music production and am just figuring things out.I got ableton live 10 trial. I want to record my keyboard in midi and my audio through audio interface in ableton at the same time. However , as my midi keyboard uses ASIO4ALL driver and my behringer audio interface uses UMC ASIO. Im not able to do that, as they both require different drivers, and u can only choose one driver at a time. Is there a way i can over come this or use a different driver or something? Please can someone help.
Many thanks

What Behringer audio interface and MIDI keyboard are you using?
If your audio interface has a 5-pin MIDI input, plug your MIDI keyboard into that. It won't show up as an audio device anymore, so it won't need the ASIO driver, and you can record the MIDI and the audio simultaneously through your interface.

Does it have midi over usb drivers? If yes use that to record midi then! For audio use your Behringer........

Yamaha has a document on their website called "Computer-related Operations". I took a look at that and the owner's manual for your workstation keyboard, and unfortunately, I don't see any easy way to connect both your audio interface and the workstation to your PC at the same time, and it appears that the workstation can only transfer either MIDI or audio via the USB jack, but not both simultaneously.
Not sure if this will work, (or if it does work, if it will be stable), but here's something you could try based on what I read: Uninstall the audio driver for the workstation and install Yamaha's MIDI driver. Then connect the line out jacks on the workstation to your audio interface. If this works, your PC will see your audio interface as an audio device and the workstation as a MIDI device, which will then allow you to record both audio and MIDI from the workstation at the same time (on two separate tracks, of course).

To record audio from your keyboard AND midi note data at the same time, simply fire up your Behringer audio interface (using its UMC ASIO driver) and switch on your keyboard as a stand alone instrument i.e. don't plug it into your computer with a USB.... get a patch cord out of the main output (audio out) of your keyboard and insert it into Ch 1 of your Behringer... then get a MIDI cable and connect the MIDI Out of your keyboard to the MIDI In of your Behringer.
Next fire up Ableton ... arm both a midi channel AND an audio channel at the same time... on a PC you hold down the Ctrl button and use your mouse to click on the record arm button of each track... you'll notice for the channels you armed that the small buttons on the side of each clip box become a small circle (the channels you didn't arm are still small squares) ... keep your finger on the Ctrl button and mouse click on the small round button for both the armed midi channel and the audio channel ... the metronome will start and count you in to start recording.
Both channels will now begin to record... the audio channel will record the audio coming from your keyboard and the midi channel will record the midi data also coming from your keyboard ...

That Yamaha workstation doesn't have a MIDI OUT; MIDI over USB is all it offers. Take a look at the back panel.

Thanks for taking your time and doing this. By doing the idea you suggested , i can only see the audio being recorded right? how will the midi be recorded?Richie Witch wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 11:08 amYamaha has a document on their website called "Computer-related Operations". Yh as its already mentioned , unfortunately my workstation doesn't have an midi out, so thats the difficult part. Thanks for your reply tho.

No, what I meant is you will only see your audio interface as an audio selection preferences and you will only see your keyboard on your MIDI preferences.abrahams21 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 4:52 pmThanks for taking your time and doing this. That will allow you to arm a MIDI track for the keyboard and an audio track for the interface inputs (the ones that have the keyboard audio connected). If you arm both tracks at once, you will record (and see) the MIDI notes being recorded on one track and the matching audio recorded on the other.
