Hi,
I've had continous performance and crashing issues since upgrading to 10 after getting a new laptop back in September. The fans are constantly kicking in with only like 4 up to date plug ins running. It's not been a great start upgrading to 10 after coming from 9 which was so stable.
I'm sure Apple are partly responsible but it's not something that can just be ignored or put on them when the other two DAWs I have to use for work are stable and run without these issues. It's heartbreaking because Live has been my go to DAW for over 10 years.
I can't afford something as drastic as getting a new laptop and would really appreciate an update on 10. It's been a while and there's loads of web results complaining about performance with Live 10 and the new Mac OS.
Anyway - a couple of days ago the problem got more serious where basically at first a project would load but not play - basically freeze. Could go from arrange to session view fine but that was it. I then disabled all plugs in preferences and now everytime I open Live it just crashes and closes down. I can't even get it to open for more than a minute before it just shuts down again.
Gonna run a fresh install today which will hopefully sort this out but please update 10.
Aron
ps I sent this into tech support first but haven't had a reply.

Nah. Still crashes and closes down.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Which Mac are you using?
One thing that might help is the thread about reducing the Mac Windowserver load by reducing Live's graphics frame rate in the "tips and tricks" part of this forum. It made a huge difference to 10's performance for me. After the earliest versions I've found 10 to be very stable indeed, though I'm still on Mojave at the moment.

@TLW
Thanks for the tip. I don't have the Options.txt in the Ableton Preferences folder. I saw in another thread that you'd need to create it if you don't have it. I think before I try this to avoid fans freaking out I'd need get Live to stay open for more than 20 seconds or whatever it is before it shuts down again. I've done two fresh installs now and Live still won't play ball. :-/

okay so I've done this

and we're back in action. I'll try the graphics trick tomorrow! Look forward to seeing what tech support say about the crash report as well. Hopefully I'll hear back soon.
