watch a movie, read a book ... please, just step away from the computer!

It's Ok for us weirdos, but it's your job, you will melt your brain on this stuff working 24/7

there, my thousandth post and it is some kind of weird group-hug thing!

Ok Alex. Im using Live 5.0.1. It is currently my system hard drive that the space is being eaten up on. I am using windows xp. And live is installed on the same system. When I do preview a clip it seems to take up about 50 or more megabytes. That is all and I thank you for any help you can provide. I like Live but i hate to see it cause me so much trouble.

Hi Chikara,

ok, what kind of clip you preview to let it happen? Is it an Ableton clip (*.alc) or a mp3 file?

regards,
Alex

Chikara, it should be possible to determine *where* on your hard drive all this data is going. Try browsing through your system disk looking for abnormally large folders.

I forgot if you're on a pc or not, but if you are, try using this program as the explorer:
http://explorerxp.com/

It will give you a pretty quick overview of the size of the folders - and TABS!
mbp 2.66, osx 10.6.8, 8GB ram.

Hi Chikara,

if it is an mp3 file Live has to decode them before playing and stores this decoded file in the Decoding Cache.

The decoding cache is placed in the folder for audio recordings.
Open the 'Default' section of the Live preferences and check which is the path for "Audio Recoding".
Then check if this the folder that grows up when playing mp3 files.

By default the Decoding Cache is placed here:
"C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Ableton\Live Recordings\Decoding Cache".

Please note that "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\" is a invisible folder by default so you might have to change your explorer settings to see it.

regards,
Alex
