Alesis Strike MultiPad vs Roland SPD-SX Drum Pads

Post by scoopneck » Sat Aug 15, 2020 4:50 pm

About to pull the trigger on a percussion multi-pad and I need just a little more input...I've read other forums' responses to this matchup, but I'm curious how Ableton users weigh in on this. Bonus points for specific details (+/-s about ergonomics, reliability, features, ease of use, durability, etc) AND extra special bonus points if you have used them both.

SPD-SX owner, I never comparison shopped, you know more about that area than I do. I wouldn't mind playing with mine to answer any questions you have with it working with Live.

I'm a guitar player, I bought it because it was on sale and for a 10+ years I've been wanting those pads for 10+ years and the price point was right. as time goes on as my budget allows I'd LOVE to get to that dream MIDI drum kit, as we all would. (I suck at drumming btw.)

actually, if you have info to share on what a guy like me is likely to find as I hope to expand my SPD over time I'd love to read it.

I played and owned a SPD-s many years ago in my Roland TD9 kit, when was a gigging drummer, and in my studio setup I have the Alesis Strike Multi Pad, the pads on the Alesis, are much better than the old Roland (I believe the SPD-SX pads same as the SPD-S). Plus the Strike Multipad natively maps to Ableton's drum rack too, plsu the peachy screen make the Strike pad easier to edit.
