Mac users & aggregate audio devices

Post by wellsoliver » Sat Sep 19, 2020 7:41 pm

Wondering if anyone can shed some light here: I have a Scarlett 18i20 and I made an aggregate device in Audio & MIDI Setup whereby the Scarlett'ss out's (1-20) are first, and the built-in output (1/2) are the 21st and 22nd out.

I select this device in Live and set the Master out to 21/22, and ... silence. The levels are pumping, but it's not coming out of the built-in output.

If I reverse this: Built-In output are 1/2 and the Scarlett's 1-20 are 3-22, Live will play audio through built-in output when 1/2 are selected as the Master out.

Any ideas why it doesn't work when 21/22 are selected? I'd prefer the built-in outs to be last so my numeric outputs match 1-20 on my Scarlett.

Thanks!

To quote from Apple's instructions:

"With the new Aggregate Device selected, enable the checkbox labeled "Use" on the left side of the Audio Devices window. Do this for each device you want to include in the Aggregate Device. The order in which you check the boxes determines the order of the inputs and outputs in applications like Logic Pro and MainStage. (my bold) For example, the first box you checked will be inputs one and two, the second box checked will be three and four, and so on"

I'm not at home so can't check, but I think this works with Live as well. If not then as an alternative you can name the inputs and outputs in Live's preferences which may help avoid confusion.
