File Handling Improvements

Post by MallorcaMalle » Sat Oct 31, 2020 9:40 am

Hey all,
I very much like the way Live handles User Library and Packs Folder. But here are three things that I'd like to see changed in future updates.
[note: writing from germany so pls. excuse my english]

1. Store *.asd files in the project folder. Other DAWs create a folder inside the project folder and place all project-related audio analysis files in there. For instance when you load a "cub" project with lots of audio tracks it is ready to go as soon as it displays the gui having read all analysis files inside the project. There is no need to have a "create analysis files" option in the preferences, because they are ALWAYS being created when you import a sample but they don't bother you. I don't see any advantage having these *.asd files spread all over my sample library, like Live does it. Turning them off in Live results in laggy project startup, because analysis has to be performed again for all audio tracks. All of this is not neccessary in my opinion.

2. An option in the preferences to always store depended files (like samples) within the project when using CMD+S for saving OR add key command to "Collect and save". The problem today isn't storage capacity but it is more likely dependencies. In other DAWs you can define that imported audio is always put inside the project folder. Especially when working with Live in fullscreen (F11) this would be a good addition.

3. An option for more than one VST2 plugin folder in the preferences: In Live you currently have to use a workaround and create another folder where you have to create links inside to all of your VST2 plugin folders. This does of course not apply for VST3.

Cheers

Definitely agree with nr1.
The .ASD got on my nerves so much.
I keep my folders as clean and uncluttered as possible.....the damn .asd make it messy.
I deleted them from my sample folder......uncountable amounts of them.
Turned off the option in Preferences.
Having them in to project folder makes way more sense.
