Multi Track Midi Capture - Not Working?

Post by Rarefaction66 » Tue Oct 20, 2020 6:34 pm

Does anyone else manage to get the multi capture to work? I have tried everything and followed the guides but Ableton just randomly captures one of the active (record enabled) midi tracks no matter what.

It is supposed to "listen" to and capture any midi tracks which are record enabled but I just cannot get that to happen

It works in monitored tracks, monitoring has to be on in the MIDI Track, with either Monitor set to Auto+track armed, or Monitor set to In.

It is not simply "any midi tracks which are record enabled", as you can arm a track which has Monitor set to Off, and MIDI tracks with Monitor set to In will capture even when "un-armed".

@pottering

Incorrect, here is a cut and paste from abletons own description of the capture function. Notice the word OR;;

"How do I use this feature?
Arm a MIDI track(s), or set the monitor to "In". Live then listens constantly for all MIDI data on those tracks. Once you're done playing, press the Capture MIDI button on the transport and Live creates a new MIDI clip with all captured MIDI data in any armed/monitored tracks."

Following the above post, this works perfectl, UNLESS trying to capture more than one track with more than one controller on different MIDI Channels. Which, according to Ableton, should result in all tracks being captured but does not

Obviously by the lack of interest on this forum and a total lack of interest by Ableton themselves, I take it that I am one of the only people who would like to use this feature!!!

That's not what I'd call a scientifically logical conclusion :wink:
It works on multiple midi tracks if they're all listening to the same midi input (and are armed of course).
Not with different midi input, as you noticed.

But it's not called "multi capture". Maybe that's what confused you?
It's not design to capture a whole jam with all your gear but this last idea you just played and realised it was cool afterward.

Hey Rarefaction66 !

I've been having a similar problem with midi capture on multiple tracks, and what's weird is, it's inconsistent. for example, sometimes if I have 4 tracks record enabled, it will only capture 1, and on other times it will capture 2 or even 3. It seems completely random.

Ever find a solution?

Cheers,
terbano
