MIDI Groups

Post by case_101 » Sat Nov 16, 2019 7:53 am

It's a shame that groups currently only output audio signal.
Live has the capability to aggregate several midi tracks into to a single midi track.
Grouping and especially nested grouping is a really nice feature, I'd love to organize things with midi groups.

You can do this now, sort of. Route your MIDI tracks to the input of a dedicated MIDI track. I do this for drums all the time.

There is also serious problem with track numbering. We should have a selection to count the GROUP track as track or skip it.

THE PROBLEM:

I have a Novation controller.

- I create a 9 tracks.
- I group first 8 into a group
- then the group track becomes track 1 and my last track in the group becomes track 9
- when I can to go to track 8 I have to remember that this track became now track 9

this gets super complicated and annoying when one have more than a dozen of groups,...

I would love to see track numbering separate from the groups.
Then I would like to see: 1.2, 1.5
which would refer to group 1, track 1 and group 1 track 5 etc....
I tried to do this in the project manually but it is to tedious when we make some changes,...

Please add some key combination to scroll through groups (not only tracks), and some clear indicator which track is a group (perhaps a INDENT)...or something similar

I did mention the ability to

I'm referring specifically to a midi group.
