Improve TAP TEMPO
Improve TAP TEMPO
Now tap tempo function is useless for quick syncronization on the fly. I think it could be good to have option to set number of tap in the prefs by which tempo will be approcsimated before set. Now after two or thre taps i always get wrong tempo and this function become useless if i want to sync Live with f.e drummer playing.

Do you mean that you'd require more taps before any tempo is changed in Live, so that the approximation of your tapping's tempo is more accurate?

Yes. And may be ability to define number of taps (in preferences) before tempo is calculated and set.Amaury wrote:Hi,RO-mix wrote:Now tap tempo function is useless for quick syncronization on the fly. Re: Improve TAP TEMPO
Just curious: do you feel you need as many taps as beats in a bar, generally? Or more? Or does it depend? And if so, on what does it depend?RO-mix wrote:Yes. I will try to figure out the process of manual synching and describe it. Abit later.
Main point is to not only set the tempo but also sync click with my tapping. Generaly i think it takes from 4 to 8 taps to calculate....
Re: Improve TAP TEMPO
I personally don't think Live should start playback after a certain amount of beats, I find this a bit disturging. It's not difficult to hit space bar as the fifth beat, if you really want to start playback. Especially with faster tempos and fewer beats/bar, it's not so handy that Live just starts playing - knowing that, you have to hit the tap tempo -button one beat less to prevent Live from starting playback = too much to think about.
I'd vote for just free tap as many times as you wish and see the tempo settle and then hit space if you want Live to actually play in that tempo. Live could count numbers as a count-down as it currently does when tapping, this helps to see the tempo visually, but no playback after this...

Yes i also don`t like Live to start playback always after taping. It also should be optional.posssu wrote: I'd vote for just free tap as many times as you wish and see the tempo settle and then hit space if you want Live to actually play in that tempo. What if life is already playing....what can you suggest to make tempo change smooth and precise?
Re: Improve TAP TEMPO
Another suggestion (probably some alternate functionality, this is more like a recording-tapped-tempo-thingy...)
Especially when programming orchestral music (for example in film), I'd really like to be able to "conduct" my music, too. This would mean I would record ABSOLUTE taps, so that every tap I make would mark a beat in actual bars on the timeline.
Like I said, this isn't probably a way to tap in a tempo, but more current when recording tempo. But this would help programming MIDI performances much more human.

Re: Improve TAP TEMPO
I think that the tap tempo function of Ableton needs to be redesigned to be able to adapt more smoothly to playing live with instrumentalists.
Really I should be able to tap tempo with my foot and have the music follow the band I'm playing with through speed ups and slow downs.
Instead, it sounds likes it's racing ahead and slowing down and then it doesn't actually settle on my foot tapping

Re: Improve TAP TEMPO
Yes, I tried to change midi Pick Up to Value Scaling and won't improve much during live performance.
It speeds up or slow down too soon. It shouldn't trigger before 3 taps.
This pluging seems not available anymore.
