how to make a beat synced retrigger in simpler
how to make a beat synced retrigger in simpler
hi
I want to be able to have a sample retrigger on, for example, 16ths, (relative to the bpm) as I hold down a drum pad or key. So it'll be responding the midi note on and then triggering the start of the sample every 16th, regardless of its duration, until it gets a note off message.
I would like to do this entirely within simpler. It seems like the amplitude envelope loop mode options are what I need, except for the fact that they seem to do nothing.
this must be possible?
thanks for your help

Thanks for your answer, and that does indeed achieve the right effect, but is it possible solely within simpler though?
What are those simpler amp envelope options for?

Amp envelope is literally a gain amplitude envelope, it is independent of the settings to play the sample.

Yeah, I understand that it’s separate from the character of the sample as defined by the front window, but the manual refers to the following:
From 24.8.4
“ The Amplitude Envelope can be looped via the Loop chooser. For Loop and Trigger modes, if a note is still held when the Decay stage ends, the envelope will restart from its initial value. The time it takes to move from the Sustain level to the initial value is defined by the Time parameter. For Beat and Sync modes, if a note is still held after the amount set in the Rate slider, the envelope will restart from its initial value.”
This sounds like exactly what I’m imagining. That is, hold down note- envelope retriggers (according to mode)-let go of note.
I’m really just trying to master Simpler, and I’m a bit stuck because I can’t get these controls to do much anything, and I can’t find any video tutorial which actually shows them working.

Ok, after playing around more I juuuust about get it. The envelope loop behaviour doesn't retrigger the sample like I imagined it should. It's much more complex than that, which is obviously great if you need something complex and aren't doing something that is best achieved with the arpeggiator
I only got to grips with it after making a suitably long looping sample and setting bpm to 60 and playing around with the settings whilst using a 2 bar clip and various legato and short notes at various divisions. Its utility doesn't exactly leap out at you!

In synths the oscillators are playing all the time, so the amp envelope usually shapes the whole sound (since there is always audio to shape)
But with samplers the sample may end before the amp envelope, as samples have their own gain envelope "printed", like a snare sample will have that typical snare envelope shape (sharp attack then a short release).
(When you load a sample in Live you basically see its gain envelope).
Both synths and sampler may have a filter envelope shortening things before the amp envelope too.

Thanks. This was what I needed to understand, that essential difference between a synth oscillator and a sample.
