Live Looping Best Practices

Post by jivemachine » Wed Dec 30, 2020 6:52 pm

Hey y’all, I’ve been experimenting with live looping and a few questions have come up that I’m hoping someone can help with.

1) Is there a way to setup a midi foot switch to function as record new clip in currently selected track? I’ve only been able to select a button for a specific clip (like slot 1, track 1 etc.) and this would cause me to run out of switches pretty quick.

2) I’d also love to hear recommendations for doing looping for different song sections like verse, chorus, bridge. Is the looper plug in recommended or is it better to use clips in session view?

Also, if anyone can recommend a website or YouTube channel with good resources for Ableton Live looping configuration that’d be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Quickly:
1) when you're in midi map mode, you can map the "play" button found at the bottom of the clip slots, above the track in/out section.
2) There's quite a lot of topics with loads of informations.

I'll try to come back later with more info, but that topic is huge. Hopefully others will chime in.
Also, we'd need info on your setup, instruments etc... to understand what kind of live looping you're after.

Thanks a bunch!

Currently just running the latest version of Live Lite but plan to upgrade soon. For control I’m Using the Novation Launchkey MK3 and a RJM Mastermind GT10 midi foot controller.

My primary instrument is guitar but I’m trying to integrate bass, keys, and drums as Ableton virtual instruments. So far I’m able to get all the clips going in scene 1 but I haven’t been able to figure out a hands free method to start building the next scene without sacrificing on of my track launch buttons.

I’ll dig through the link and see what I can learn.
