VSTs sustain indefinitely

A recurring problem I experience is that VSTs I use sustain indefinitely, and I do mean indefinitely. I get this problem in different songs, with different VSTs, both Ableton VSTs and plugin VSTS.

Anyone have this problem and know how to resolve it?

Not enough info.
What OS?
what VST as an example?
What version of Live and is it a legit copy?
WHat MIDI hardware (if any) do you have attached?
How does it sustain (when you play on a midi keyboard, when you create a clip and stop it, when you create an arrangement and the midi data on the track ends, when you have a pattern and notes stop but sound keeps playing?
Does pressing transport stop silence the sound?

Loads of unknowns and never had an issue where things did not work how I programmed them to but if you have the same problem with stock Ableton plugins and 3rd party VST plugins then there is something affecting things.

Ok. I'll contact support. Yes, of course it's a legit copy. Catalina. All VSTs. Strings Ensemble. Nexus. Those are two that come to mind. No MIDI hardware attached. As far as how it sustains. I'd love to attach a video but it looks to me like there's no functionality for that in this forum.

Yes, of course it's a legit copy.

Kind of have to ask with these things, don't take offence, many out there run non legit versions and expect assistance and sometimes quirks that affect no one else are caused by these dodgy releases so it is just to make sure we don't waste time. Are you on Live 10? What sub version (do you have access to Beta or Live 11 Beta)?

First thing I would be checking in your case is the midi automation lane for the clips specifically looking at the sustain envelope and seeing if the sustain is on.

If it happens with lives own devices too, create a very simple test track with one of Lives own instruments and a simple pattern that you can demonstrate this issue, upload and then we can have a look and see if anything is wrong.
