You're monitoring through your interface's pass through and through Live's software monitoring at the same time. Turn one of them off. I don't use Focusrite's but there must be a way to turn down monitoring on that channel or some front end mixing software that comes with it that will allow you to turn off the monitoring through the hardware. Or monitor through the hardware and just set Live's monitoring to Off.

You'll get less latency monitoring through the hardware, but you'll be able to hear any effects applied if you monitor through Live.

I also use a Focusrite Scarlett interface (8i6). The reason for your issue is that by default, Focusrite's Mix Control software sends any audio input straight to the monitoring output. This means you will hear this while you play, until after it is recorded.

To stop this behaviour, open Scarlett Mix Control, and click the mute button below the Analogue in 1 and 2 channels.

Then make sure you have the monitor chanel in Ableton set to "In" and you will only hear the guitar processed and not clean

Just fyi... the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and 2i4 don't use MixControl. Only the more expensive units work with that software. I had a 2i4, but didn't have access to MixControl until I upgraded to an 18i6.

yep, no MixControl. it's the Direct Monitor switch on the front of the 2i2 that you are looking for...

I dont think I have a mute button for the focusrite and turning the direct monitor switch on plays only clean, off double guitars, seriously should I give up trying to make music with ableton and just jam through my ipad? The time and effort to produce a noob track vs enjoying playing.

I don't know why but i tried to start from scratch, i put my guitar on the 2 audio track and the drums on 3 and it seems to work now. If I had the drums on 1 or 2 does that make the guitar double?

I think there are just too many unknowns about your Live setting to answer your question accurately.

I used to run into a similar problem with hardware synths, but I just kept messing with the routing buttons and pull-down lists in the I/O section of the track until I figured out how to stop the doubling effect. It works perfectly for me now, but it took a lot of experimenting to figure it out since I was really new to all this.

that worked for me, but only was necessary to go to Focusrite Control software (comes with Clarett2PRE USB) > Output Routing > Hardware inputs > Analogue 1 > mute.

in Ableton it worked in the track with Monitor = Auto (track arm recording active) or Monitor = In. thanks a lot!
