Artirua plugins look blurry
Artirua plugins look blurry
Ableton Live Suite 10 Win 10 is beautiful in 4K, Dune 3 VST is beautiful in 4K, but Arturia plugins Buchla Easel and Synthi V are blurry. The Arturia plugins look beautiful as standalone but are blurry launched from Live. No amount of scaling improves this.
Is there a fix for this?

Maybe (just maybe) this works:

https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/artic ... indows-10-
I read NI plugins sometimes need that option deselected too.Auto Scale Plug-in Window
Certain HiDPI plug-ins may require you to manually disable scaling (via the context menu) in order to use them on HiDPI screens. (Note: This feature does not apply to VST3 devices, which are auto-scaled by default).
There are two ways to do this.
1. Right click on the plug-in title bar and deselect "Auto-Scale Plugin Window".
2. Right click on the plug-in the Live Browser and deselect "Auto-Scale Plugin Window".

Re: Artirua plugins look blurry
I tried deselecing that option and you get the bottom left corner huge and cropped, then you can't do anything. VST3 is also blurry and I would expect that to be fine.

It's not Ableton's fault.
I played with it yesterday and I managed to have a sharp Ableton and Arturia. But ...

Re: Artirua plugins look blurry
it's an overall Windows problem
Explanation of the issue:
Windows 4K on a 27 'monitor must be zoomed to 150% in order to read texts, etc.
When you run stand-alone Arturia Instruments, Windows scaling automatically shuts down and Arturia Instruments are sharp.
When you start Ableton with HD-pi and the Arturia instruments inside, they are slightly blurred by default.
When you start Ableton with HD-pi turned off then Ableton si blurred and the Arturia instruments inside Ableton are sharp by default.
When you check "bypass windows scaling for Application" in Windows and
you run Ableton with HD-pi and inside the Arturia instruments, so they are sharp by default. (you just have to uncheck the option from the context menu in Ableton on the tool). In this case, Ableton is sharp, and Arturia is also sharp. However, the problem occurs with plugins, which I demented and can not change the scale itself. So they will be too small. Because they will use native 4K resolution without scaling and you won't read anything on them.
That is, Ableton is really innocent in this. It's a GUI design system for individual Plugins, and since compatibility is most important, the slightly blurry GUI content of some plugins is the least evil.

Re: Artirua plugins look blurry
My Ozone plugins open super tiny and RX launched from a clip is also tiny. The windows forum groups think that people with 4K monitors want everything tiny. If ever there was a reason to say "Get a Mac", hires monitors is it. Everything is fine on my MBP.

Re: Artirua plugins look blurry
This is an issue that can be fixed. Arturia plugins load up just fine in Akai's MPC Software, and I can enable the scaling to make them look great on my 4K monitor in Windows. But the moment I disable Plug-in Window Auto-Scaling in Live 11 with Arturia plug-ins, the plug-in window gets smaller while the GUI is zoomed in too much and blurry. Proper VST2 implementation of high res plugin windows exists on other DAWs in Windows. It doesn't exist in Ableton Live and I fear we will have to wait a few years and pay for another full version number update to get it on Live.
Re: Artirua plugins look blurry
The transition to 4K monitors for Windows has been very rocky. I love mine, but few apps look that perfect in 4K and 150% zoom. Perhaps Windows 11 will be different?
Re: Artirua plugins look blurry
Hello,
It's been late but I'm on a windows laptop where Arturia plugins were blurry and if you're on windows, most likely it's Ableton that's making it blurry as it's doing some adjusting. I went to the Ableton .exe, right clicked and went to the Compatibility tab, then below, I clicked on Change High DPI Settings. After that I made sure to check Override Scaling behavior. On the drop down, I selected Application. Then Apply and Save. And inside Ableton I unchecked Auto-Scale Plug-in Window. All plugins From Arturia and Ozone became clear. Cheers.

Re: Artirua plugins look blurry
It does indeed look beautiful with those settings, thank you! It also makes all vsts without large skins very tiny which is probably why I never tried those settings with the Arturia ones. The NI plugins are all now very small. oh well.
Re: Artirua plugins look blurry
No problem! How do they look in other DAWs? Are they small there as well?
Re: Artirua plugins look blurry
My only other full HD software is MPC 2 and there's no plugin scaling in that app. All plugins look great, and yes NI are all tiny. It seems its the scaling in Live causing the fuzziness. High DPI scaling as no noticeable affect.

Re: Artirua plugins look blurry
The problem with Arturia plugins is still in Live version 11.3.4 with Windows 11 resolution 2560x1440 system zoom (150%) and Live set to HiDPI.
Auto scaling is set on by default so all plugins where it is activated are not sharp but little blurry due to the Windows System zoom. But when you deactivate auto scaling for Arturia plugins they get completely unusable because the graphics are broken then.
For plugins like Sylenth1, Nexus, Phoscyon, Spire, deactivating auto scaling works fine and displays them in full sharp 2560x1440 resolution.
Of cource everything works fine if Windows 11 zoom factor is set to normal 100%. Then also Arturia plugins are crystal sharp. But then I cannot work anymore on my computer because everything is tiny and making text zoom bigger in Windows creates many other problems.
I think the bug is on Live's site because Cubase for instance displays them sharp with Windows system zoom at 150% and preferences set to "use system scaling".
Of course this is not a deal breaker but especially the Arturia plugins, which are scalable in size while staying sharp, look absolutely beautiful in higher resolution.
I described similar in the following thread some time ago.
