Sampler Update

Post by Nyyx » Sat Jan 30, 2021 1:12 pm

I'm curious what everyone else's take on this one is as well. Currently, I find myself using Simpler more than Sampler. I really love the ability to expand the newer stuff like Wavetable, EQ8, and Simpler above the effects rack, and utilize it pretty much where ever it's available. That said, I feel like Sampler is just sort of dated. Both in it's layout and functionality. I mean you can't even adjust your samples start location without rigging up the Aux Envelope to the sample's offset, and then making a macro, which also then stops working if you go into loop mode. And then the workflow of thumbing through 4 tabs(excluding Zone and Midi) just to work with your sample. Also the lack of warp modes. It just doesn't feel very nice to use. And I don't think these are nitpicks. Simpler is just cleaner, looks super nice, and everything is pretty straight forward. Feels bad because Sampler is supposed to be the (paid for)upgrade, which it is, but at the same time a downgrade. I would love to see Sampler get some love and it get the expandable tabs treatment like examples I listed earlier. Transforming Sampler's layout into one like Wavetable's would be perfection.

I found Sampler quite disappointing from the outset as so many of the controls are global rather than per voice. It would be great if it could be refreshed, as Nyyx suggests.

For 2009 it was normal, and even then many complained about the lack of some functions, I had a post of about 20-30 sentences ...

Also Sampler is the only way of turning interpolation off if you're into that sound
which many people are, i certainly am.
and don't tell me i can just slap on redux and be done with it.
uninterpolated playback offers a very different sounding harmonic that changes samplerate per note and is desirable in certain situations.
the button is there. why not have it in simpler as well?

i know its possible to switch to simpler after setting up an instrument but with interpolation
curiously enough all the features that i'd wish to automate have been exclusive to simpler.
why can't i animate playback positon or loop start / length etc.
all the good stuff is in simpler.
except for interpolation: off

that's my feature request.

I agree with you, having all the modulators and the other tools global and not per sample is a significant shortcoming
