Hi All,
Just wondering what's going on here.
I routed a track with a sine wave to one of the outputs of my interface, then (with a cable) connected this output to an input.
When I hit record with input monitoring disabled, i get a nice in sync result
Bottom waveform is the recording.

If I enable input monitoring i get this

The offset changes when i change my interface buffer size, but it's always out of sync.
Same test in Reaper with input monitoring on or off (it doesn't matter)
All good and in sync.

What's going on here? Is there a way to make Ableton compensate for the input monitoring and put the recorded waveform in the right place?
the "Driver error compensation" adjustment only affects things when the input monitor is off. Similarly the "Reduced latency when monitoring" option didn't affect anything either.
Apologies about the image links, this is my first time posting here and I couldn't manage to successfully embed them
Cheers,
Loopback test with input monitoring is out of sync

Re: Loopback test with input monitoring is out of sync
Ok so after a little more digging, I found this from all the way back in 2008:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=93759
This seems really bizarre to me, and kind of nuts that this seems to have persisted for 12 years.
Anyone know if the workaround described here is still the best way to go?

Unfortunately it is. This is horrible experience and everybody seems to be wasting hours or even days dealing with it only to find the solution buried deep in a forum (assuming the google gods are on their side). I feel bad knowing people will continue to bump into this over and over again.SnuggleKittens wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 4:50 amOk so after a little more digging, I found this from all the way back in 2008:

And recently what really puzzled was me was in the OP here: viewtopic.php?t=185047
Haven't verified for myself but apparently this is only an issue in session view? So maybe give recording while in arrangement view a try?

Re: Loopback test with input monitoring is out of sync
I apologize for my comment about the answer being buried deep in a forum. In my defense I spent a lot of time searching for how to do this and surprisingly did not come across that link, even though it's the first result when you search "ableton record external hardware"
