Latency Issues With Outboard Effects

Post by moleculardnb » Sun Mar 28, 2021 4:11 pm

Hey,

Been using Live for some years now and only recently started using OTB equipment. Recording synths/instruments isn't a problem as I can easily fix any latency issues, however, with using effect units on send/return tracks is where the latency really shows and can even get phasing/delay effects.

My current setup is a RME Babyface Pro FS with Behringer ADA8200 via ADAT - I send the audio from Ableton to an Erica Synths FX unit and then back into Ableton using the ins and outs on the Behringer. If using it on an insert there's virtually no latency but when using it on a send is when problems show up. I've been really enjoying using outboard FX and already have some other stuff I want to get and try but the latency/phasing on the send/return tracks is kind of putting me off.

I'm also on Windows 10 with 16gb of RAM and an AMD Ryzen 7 2700 8 core CPU, Ableton is installed on a M.2 2280 Samsung 980 500GB SSD.

Any recommendations for fix/work around this?

Not sure that is your problem, but Sends knobs that send to themselves disable latency compensation, as that is a feedback loop and latency can't be compensated inside a feedback loop.

In that case, you probably need to disable the Send knobs that send into themselves (like A knob in Return A).
