no need to dither when exporting to 24-bit from 32 bit float session?
no need to dither when exporting to 24-bit from 32 bit float session?
reading up on it I'm fairly sure there is no reason why exporting final master from a 32-bit float session at 24 bit would need to be dithered, but just wanted to double check that in theory, exporting a 32-bit and a 24-bit final master from a 32-bit float session would be identical?

Maybe not bit for bit identical, but as close as you’re ever going to get. If I was really paranoid I would use triangular either with noise shaping turned off, but most of the time I don’t bother with dithering at all.

The dithering noise (or distortion from truncation) would most likely be so low anyways to really affect anything for 24 bit.Artcutech wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 5:26 amreading up on it I'm fairly sure there is no reason why exporting final master from a 32-bit float session at 24 bit would need to be dithered, but just wanted to double check that in theory, exporting a 32-bit and a 24-bit final master from a 32-bit float session would be identical?
It already is fairly low when doing 16 bit conversions.
