Simpler: Set it to "1-Shot" as Default?

Simpler seems to be set to "Classic" by default, but can I change it to start as "1-shot"?

Inside a drum rack, you can have an instrument-rack chain and drag in a ton of samples to a single pad. You quickly can have a macro knob on your drum rack that will scroll through a hundred kick samples just for one kick, which is perfect for finding the right sample. Its an awesome way to setup a customizable drum rack (tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=839Ug8q10Is)...
However, the fatal flaw is that Simpler plays all of your samples in "Classic" mode (where you have to *hold* down the pad to play the whole sample), instead of the "1-shot" mode necessary for finger-drumming on pads.

It's such a fast workflow to quickly build powerful custom drum racks, but then you have to edit the mode of every single sample by hand...

Setup simpler to your preferences. Right click the simpler, select save as default preset.

No, that's the default for the empty Simpler dragged or double clicked to a midi track from the instruments category in the Live browser.

He wants to set the default for drum racks, so he needs to set up an EMPTY (no sample loaded) simpler and drag it to Defaults/Dropping Samples/On Drum Rack in the User Library

If you have already done what Ivehon has suggested and want to undo it, elgrayso, delete the Simpler.adv from Defaults/Instruments.

No, he is talking about doing 128's not slicing or dropping single samples. Default presets could still be a viable option.

Thanks for the input guys! Actually the solution turned out to be a similar folder called "On Device View."

In case anyone found this thread with the same question, I put the basic instructions below:


Right-click on the top of the Simpler bar and save the empty Simpler (in 1-Shot mode) as the default.
Drag this file
User Library > Defaults > Instruments
and copy it to this location
User Library > Defaults > Dropping Samples > On Device View

also copy the file to the "On Drum Rack" folder if you want to stay consistent.

I had a little difficulty and so it is worth specifying...

In order to use the default file with "Slice to new MIDI Track", change the setting in the pop-up dialogue by clicking the rectangle right beside where it says "Slicing Preset".

Find the name you gave for your default preset and select it from the menu.

Finally, hit the "ok" button for the desired result of 1-Shot samples.

You can set this all up from within Live since a Drum rack pad also has a 'Set as default' option. So no need to copy files in folders etc.

The folders are in Live's "User Library" in the browser window as files can be dragged between folders within the browser in Live.

The only way I found to copy and paste files, however, was to right-click on the particular folder in Live and click "Show In Finder". Conveniently, then I copy/pasted my drum rack file to the Default > "Slicing" folder.

It was necessary to put the custom default file inside the "Slicing" folder for the "Slice to New MIDI Track" option to result as all 1-shot sample slices.
