Hi all !

I'm currently building a M4L device to bring some utilitary tools to the Arrangement View.

I have arleady patched a few things but I will take your requests to make it a bit fuller.

This is currently mostly for live purpose but it could match with more editing oriented features.

There is, for exemple, a small device to assign a specific global quantization from a midi device (which is not possible by default). It can be that simple or really complex, I don't mind (I am well experienced with Max) as it could be conveniently packed with some other features.

I'd like to think of it as a ''swiss army knife'', a multi-tool that you would keep in most of your sessions.

This will be, obviously, completely FREE !

There is a Logic feature that I wish Live had in its Arrange View.

“Play from previous bar”

If the transport is stopped, it immediately starts playback from the beginning of the bar immediately to the left of the one you’re parked on. If the transport is currently running it bumps the playhead back to the start of the previous bar, and play continues.

Having this assigned to a hot key (I use the tilde key top-left of the keyboard) is AMAZING for editing. Say you’re adjusting an automation edit with your mouse in your right hand, you can just tap the tilde key with your left hand to re-play over and over the edit as you continuously tweak it, without stopping playback.

Because Live doesn’t separate the “I’m editing this bit” selection from the “play from here” selection, it takes more keystrokes and you lose the current edit selection.

In Logic, hitting the tilde “x” number of times bumps the playhead to the left by “x” bars, so you can continuously roll back and play over the current edit without stopping. You can keep tweaking the edit (and most importantly keep the edit selection) with your right hand while the left hand bumps the playhead to the left.

Such a “small” feature, but incredibly powerful! If Live had this, I would think all my Christmases had come at once

@Pitch Black : nice idea indeed. And super easy to make in M4L.
@LeSonotope : have you checked my "Grand Duc" device ? I made this kind of in that spirit. No GUI, though, because I don't trust GUIs (proved to be a source of bugs in M4L) and because it's mainly meant to be driven by MIDI clips.

+1 for le "Grand Duc", I've found it really useful in its own right, and also in helping me to learn M4L to create my own version customised to my use case, Chapeau chapelier fou.

I've just had a look at this and it seems to be a great job man. I wanted to try a community driven project because there is always an unsuspected need from someone that could benefit a lot of us.
