It would be great to be able to partially freeze a channel, meaning all effects up to a certain point in the chain, while leaving everything after that unfrozen. I understand a full pick and mix of what to freeze is technically unfeasible, but it should be possible to freeze up to a point in the chain, and then apply effects after that point to the frozen audio file.
This would allow for adding effects to a frozen channel, letting you get the equivalent of bouncing in place and adding effects to the bounced audio, without losing the ability to go back and modify what had been bounced. You could unfreeze the whole channel, or refreeze it with any effects that were added after.
This would necessarily mean that a channel could have a mix of frozen and unfrozen automation lanes, but I don't think that would be confusing since frozen tracks are clearly indicated with coloring.
Partial freeze, freeze & add effects
Re: Partial freeze, freeze & add effects
Yes! Other DAW’s do this.
Re: Partial freeze, freeze & add effects
You can currently workaround like this
Select and cut all the effects
Freeze
Make a group with solely the freezed track
Paste all the effects into the group
