USB induced blue screen

Post by rnb0 » Mon Mar 07, 2022 3:28 pm

This is a windows 10 problem but I thought I'd just ask here in case anyone has experience with it (as my next option would be to send a dump to microsoft for which I would not expect much response.)

Any controller that I replug or repower after a PC powerup and subsequent use by an app (Ableton, standalone plugins, Midiview, etc.) sets in motion a subsequent blue screen ("system service extension") that will occur at some point in the next half hour or so of application usage. It rarely happens right away. I've gotten the same error on three different windows systems (all at '10) with and without using a high quality powered hub. I have a launchpad, launch control, boppad and nektar impact keyboard usb-connected but it can happen with just about any subset of those in play.

I've done the whole driver examination and reload thing.

I'd really like to avoid rebooting every time I want to plug something in (or just to shutdown the annoying "vegas" mode on the launchpad...)

Seen this?
