HUGE CPU spikes and audio glitches when dropping plugins. Live 11.1 on Macbook Pro M1x. 100% Native setup.

Hi.
Got this new rig. Amazing laptop for everything except Live...
Whenever I am on Internal speakers, buffer @ 128 (tried others too) I get huge CPU spikes.
Even with only 1-2 tracks playing, let's say that I drop a device (audio plugin) while audio is playing on a track, I see the current CPU go in the hundreds/thousands and can hear pops in the speakers as if the audio is glitching. Like LOUD pops even if I monitor at the lowest volume.
System is 100% native. No plugin duplicates between VST2 and VST3. Also tried running only AU plugins with same results.
This is with no audio interface @ 44.1 khz. Same result with other sample rates. 100% native plugins, no Rosetta.
Please help :)

Thanks

Are you sure you downloaded and installed the universal version of Live and not the Intel only one? Have you tried running in Rosetta mode in case it’s one of the plug ins causing this?

I have had a few issues with similar, and now dealing with Ableton support. My specific is a huge spike if I change the Audio To dropdown on any track. Happens on Live 11 and the latest Beta, whether I'm running native or through Rosetta. Works fine in Live 10 though and I've found a workaround for playing live with Live 11.

Still get the spikes when running the session on my Apollo X6 @ 128 buffer. But now, if I drag a plugin, instead of hearing a Glitch in my computer speakers the music just stops for a few Milliseconds. I am now using Universal audio driver instead of Internal Core audio.

@Tarekith yes I am sure that I've been running 11.1.1 Universal and not Intel. When I try the same session in Rosetta it doesn't really work well and I lose all my settings so not really possible to compare.

@Greenapples2019, I get a spike too when doing the AudioTo dropdown but less than when dragging a plugin on a track while the audio is playing.

The audio engine sure works in a different way that I am used to. Changing buffer sizes to larger ones makes the CPU work even harder. Weird!

I am still on Monterey 12.2.1

Let me know if any more suggestions! Thanks!

I am getting the same thing and I have the exact same setup. Also if I have another program on my computer with audio running, it makes Ableton feedback like crazy. I basically upgraded to this super expensive computer with the hope that Live would run better. Also some 3rd party plugins are now unusable for me because they take up so much CPU.

Try setting your buffer to 128 samples.

Make sure you've updated to the latest UAD software (10.1) and latest Ableton 11.1.6 - 128 samples should be the correct audio latency for an M1 - and update to latest macOS Monterey version...
Mac Studio M2 Max and MacBook Pro M4

Genelec M030; Live 12 latest and beta; macOS 27 Golden Gate
UAD Apollo Twin

Ableton Push 2
