Duplicate clip AND play it in one go/shortcut
Duplicate clip AND play it in one go/shortcut
Hi all,
i`m using Live since v3 and do miss a simple but effective function, since ever:
I want to duplicate a clip into the next slot and play it immediately on current position with one shortcut.
CMD/STRG+D duplicates the current selected clip into the next slot but still plays the current one.
I want to edit the new clip right away while it plays. So i can progress clip iterations fast.
Now, i have to duplicate the clip, and triggering it on the next bar manually in two separate steps.
Is this possible? Tried several variations of CMD/STRG + D but haven't found it
CMD/STRG+Shift+D is not used currently
THX!

There's no native solution, but M4L (and probably ClyphX too) could help.

Is capture and insert scene not an option?
“Capture and Insert Scene inserts a new scene below the current selection, places copies of the clips that are currently running in the new scene and launches the new scene immediately with no audible interruption. This command is very helpful when developing materials in the Session View. You can capture an interesting moment as a new scene and move on, changing clip properties and trying clip combinations. ”

Indeed! Duplicate button on Push, or cmd+shift+i.
The only downside with the shortcut is that it will actually do what it says: "scene"... so every playing clips will be duplicated. On Push you have the option to only duplicate the clips from the currently selected track.
(I hate when I forget something like this! )

Duplicate command + Enter not quick enough?
Set the orig Clip to Legato along with a small Global Quantization value for faster or instant clip switching.

Re: Duplicate clip AND play it in one go/shortcut
Yes, this is a kind of workaround but a dedicated shortcut [CMD+shf+d] would be great and tight in sync always...
Yes, i tried capture and insert scene and while this is kind of approach is fine, i need this clip specific, instant shifting and editing clips.
I`ve read the push has this function integrated - duplicate and insert/play clip. This means that there must be a way to execute it direct, without push?

Not always, there’s a few things you can do on Push like adjust global swing that you can’t do directly from the hardware. Not in the studio to check this duplicate option right now unfortunately.

Re: Duplicate clip AND play it in one go/shortcut
A dedicated keyboard shortcut would be handy. Looks to be a Push-only action at the moment (using Duplicate does what you want, appears as 'Custom Action' in the Undo history)
Re: Duplicate clip AND play it in one go/shortcut
Indeed, that would be so nice.
I filed a feature request ticket, let's see.
