iBook with M-Audio USB plus Firewire hard drive?
Does this combo work well for Live on a 1.33 iBook? USB audio interface and Firewire drive for audio?

If you are talking about pure numbers, yes, about as fast as firewire 400. I think alot of people just choose a firewire interface because they plan to use many midi controllers that will take up their USB slots, etc. Also, you can chain with firewire. You will always be able to plug your HD into your interface, or something else then into your HD, you wont ever lose a port. If you tie up the USB port(s) you can chain anything to the device that is already plugged in.

i had a HDD enclosure that accepted either usb2 or firewire...
when running through the firewire, not only did it take longer to recognize upon startup, but you would hear the HDD working/ spinning through the speakers/ monitors, whatever...
since i switched it to usb, not only was it faster, but no more amplified spinning...
my experience
