Disable CC output (monotoring) only

Post by MPrinsen » Sun Aug 21, 2022 10:32 am

Hi, I’m struggling with the following issue, I hope someone can help me how to do this:

I got some hardware synth modules, so without keyboard. I use these with the External Instrument device which works great, but:
When I have input monitoring enabled, it sends back all incoming midi cc data, which results in glitches when for example doing some filter sweeps.

I do want to record the midi cc, but don’t want it to send it back when tweaking the knobs. Only upon playback of the clip. So I can disable input monitoring of that track, but then I have no way to play it using one of my midi keyboards..

So what I’m trying to do: I want to have input monitoring On for notes, but Off for CC data. Is this possible? Maybe with a max for live device? Or do you have any other workarounds?

I could create a separate midi track that only listens to my midi keyboard, but then I can not play the synth and record midi cc simultaneously and it is also very cumbersome. I would like to be able to just select a track and play my keyboard to play that selected instrument. I don’t want to have to enable/disable input monitoring or changing routings all the time..

I think disabling "Remote" for the MIDI's port's output could work in some scenarios.

If it is a few CCs (16 or less), maybe you can load an empty Audio Effects Rack and assign those CC to its Macros. Not sure because I remember MIDI Racks could actually send the CC assigned to knobs, but maybe Audio FX Racks don't send it.

I patched a M4L device, since it was easy (just didn't connect the CC outlet):
