Migrating presets

Post by 5dn » Tue Aug 23, 2022 6:06 pm

Dear Forumers,

So I had to reinstall Live.

I assumed if I kept the old presets folder and then put it into the new User Library, hey presto, I'd have my old presets but no joy!!! :(

What can I do?

Cheers

For non-sampled Live devices it should work like that, for sampled devices you need the samples, you should see an orange-red warning in the bottom with instructions.

For plugins it can be a mess, VST2 is not compatible with VST3, neither is compatible with AU, some plugins may change stuff and break compatibility between versions.

Yh, I would assume all that, but mine is not recognising a single one. Even a simple EQ8 preset for example.

User presets are saved in the User Library by default. Did you move the whole User Library folder to a new location? Where did you move from and where to?
There's no reason to move the User Library when you reinstall Live by the way.

Did you check the location of the User Library in Preferences? does it match the location of the User Library on disk? And did you double check to see if the presets are actually in that folder?

You wrote that a simple EQ Eight preset is not recognised. Do you mean you don't see it in the browser in the User Library or under EQ Eight in Audio Effects or both? Can you find the preset when you use search?

If you paste presets outside the default location inside the User Library, they are still visible in the browser, but inside a sub folder below the device called Others. So maybe you don't see it at first glance but a search would find it.

After a fresh install or moving many files you have to give the Live Indexer time to locate and index all files. Only after this is done (no more spinning circle above Places) will each file be accessible in the browser.

Hmmmmm. I thought I had paid attention to all the above: but now it's all working and I changed nothing.

I presume the autosearch hadn't run when I checked before.

Thanks anyway.
