Off-screen part of clip is left behind

In arrangement view in Ableton (Live Lite v11), if I click on a clip to select it, then drag it, any part of it which happened to be off the side of the screen will be cut off and left behind. It's annoying as often I don't notice till i've already done a bunch of stuff with it after moving it.

I never want to use the viewport location as a basis for deciding whether to chop a clip into two parts - is there an option to stop it doing this? I can't see it in Preferences. thanks

If you click a clip's title bar the whole clip gets selected, then if you drag it elsewhere it moves the whole clip.
Are you sure you're selecting the clip this way?
