Ableton Live Suite 10 Audio driver drop outs ES-9
Hello,
I hope you can help.
My ASIO audio driver drops out after 5-10 minutes of continuous multi track recording to Ableton 10 and often crashes. I have to reboot and start up every time and even when it doesn't crash. I am using the latest version of Ableton 10 and my Windows 10 Pro laptop (Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6600U CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.81 GHz), SSD is all up to date and my audio interface is the Expert Sleepers ES-9 with the most recent firmware update and the latest ASIO audio drivers installed -ASIO4All doesn't help. The laptop is optimised for use as an audio workstation using the guide on the main Ableton site, the power management option has been disabled plus USB Selective Suspend disabled via Command Prompt. The disks are in good shape with plenty of space and do not need defragging. The only things enabled at start up in task manager is the ES9 USB audio driver, MS Edge and the MS Surface DTX. I pretty much only use this laptop for audio and patch updates (and this trouble shooting) and it’s really only Ableton as a hard disk recorder and for post production of my modular rig. I keep the virus and firewall protection enabled because it made no difference when I disabled it although I have added Ableton to the safe list.
Anyway, the audio driver dropping has always been an issue but it used to only happen occasionally and maybe after a few hours. Now I get the audio driver failed to load error after about the 5-10 minute mark. It's drops every time.
As it is dropping consistently and I am getting crashes, I wondered whether it would be easy to pin point the exact event causing the crash in the crash logs and work back from that. Is anyone a whizz at reading this and would like to have a go?
Thanks
B

You aren’t using an USB hub, so the ES9 is connected directly to your laptop’s USB port? Most audio interfaces hate USB hubs…..
I do not know the reputation of this interface, but it ain’t a cheap one. Have you contacted the vendor about your situation, and have you enabled “ release audio driver in background” in Ableton? Maybe it does not like multitasking and sharing with say a browser or other program like system sounds etc.
My Focusrite doesn’t mind to do so, but there are several interfaces out there who don’t like it to share……..

Thanks for your help miyaru.
Yes I'm straight into the USB port on the laptop. Can you explain how to release audio in the background in Ableton please? I searched the manual but couldn't find anything. Is it a setting in Windows or in Ableton?

It is in Windows where you can set this, sorry.

Have you disabled system sounds in Win 10, that can help too, as it does not have to do two audio tasks at once.

Re: Ableton Live Suite 10 Audio driver drop outs ES-9
Have found this on the Wigglers forum:
yes I'm. But I think I've solved the problem.
There is an option under control panel->sound->speakers->es9->Advanced, it's called something like 'allow application to fully control this device'
(I'm not using English OS so I don't know what exactly it called)
Unchecked this, and set the samplerate/bitrate to the same setting as my daw, (somehow it was set to 32000hz), since then everything seems working fine!!
My guess is because I run programs simultaneously (bitwig, max, audition, chrome for youtube) so there were fighting over to take control.
