Amp for NS10's

hey, all you guys using NS10's, what kind of amp are you using? any spec recommendations? I heard that the better the amp, the better they will perform, so i shouldnt get cheap. true?

funny, I got advised otherwise - being that NS10s are an acquired taste - they have no bottom end so I'm using a sub from a friends 5.1 setup (just unplugged the other surround speakers) and just running the NS10s from an old HI-FI amp. I've had to take an amp back several times possibly due to overload (it not liking them) but on the whole, they are old and more useful for mid-range, so you'll need to get your bass elsewhere.

I rang around trying to get a decent amp and the advice seemed to be dont spend too much because if you are looking at paying anywhere near as much as you would get some newer active monitors like Behringer truths etc, then you'd be better off doing that - NS10s are most useful as 2nd reference monitors (for which they are universally industry standard), unfortunately they're all I have so I manage with them as my main monitors (by using a sub)

for NS-10's ive been advised to find some used high end consumer amps from the 70's as they used discreet components back then which crap on most newer amps.

Otherwise, you can get something like Alesis amps, but i've been told behringer are releasing something to compete with the Alesis amps shortly and their high end offerings should suit most budgets when they come out.

I have an old Dynaco solid state amp from the 70's powering my monitors. It works really well, sounds good, and louder than hell too.

I think any decent high end amp will do the trick, Carver, Adcom, etc. You can find them second hand for not much $. I paid $50 for my Dynaco.

But I agree, for the money, some new active monitors are probably a better value.

i used the alesis ra-150's for my ns10. (currently using msp-10s)
clean, cheap, good amps.

i mean, its not like the ns10's are going to benefit from a 4k ubermosfet-do-you-dishes power amp.

im not dogging on the ns10's in anyway, they were the standard reference forEVER, as if you could make them sound hot on them shitty speakers,, the mix would hold up on everybodys shitty speakers.

nowdays, you cant get into a moving van with worse range then the ns10's

i have some cheap little krk's i use a my real life reference moniters now.

Thanks for the advice. Ya, i already have some mackie 824's, but i decided i would grab a pair of NS10's before the go totally exstinct, just as a second reference.

Are there any stats i need to look out for on the amp? thanks
