Import .mov to Ableton

Wanted to use the sound from some vids I shot with my iPhone 8. The videos play just fine on my music PC using the VLC media player. But I can't import import the .mov file into Ableton (11.2.6):

"Could not be read. It may be corrupted or not licensed"

OK, so I guess I'll just have to play the iPhone vid directly from the phone into the computer. Doh! The wizards at Apple have decided I don't need a headphone jack on the phone!

How can I get the sound into Ableton - or can someone suggest a useful utility for doing so?

EDIT - tried the conversion utility in VLC, but it's not working & not explaining why

Apple sells a Lightning->headphone adapter for $9.

It's probably because the iPhone files are mp4 or something like that.
Convert them using Handbrake and you should be good.

Thanks, that's helpful - I just ordered the part so I have some backup strategy.

Still interested in finding out ways to strip the music out of the MOV as the least destructive way of using the audio track without having to use D/A converter out (iPhone) to the A/D converter in (sound card)

Ableton Knowledge Base/Help said I could install a third party CODEC but that it require removing the ones I already had in my Windows system. Not wanting to gut my system for this whim of an idea, I tried the Handbreak but it looks like I could only convert to mp4, mkv or webm. In short, I used HB to convert the .MOV that I had from the iPhone to an .MP4, from which VLC was happy to extract an mp3, so job done.
